This is a tewhatewha, a quarter-circle back-weighted club. This two-handed weapon was wielded in a manner were blows were landed with the straight, flat side; alternatively the pointed butt could also be used as a stabbing weapon. The quarter circle was placed to increase the weight, but also for the attachment of a feather or fibre tassel which could be used to distract the enemy.
