Fishing weight

A float in the form of a human arm and hand. Floats of this type were used for catching flying-fish with a line and gorge. A stone weight fastened to its base ensures that the float is partially submersed. These floats were used in south Malaita and Ulawa as a set of twelve, each with a different carving at the top.
